Easter Saturday … for kids

On Easter Saturday, we live in the expectation that Jesus will rise from the dead. Yesterday we spent the day in grief but also in gratitude. Gratitude for the love of Jesus, which is so strong that nothing can stop it, not even death. For us, the cross of Jesus has become a ladder to the Heavenly Father: into His arms, into His embrace.

After Jesus was crucified, they buried him in a tomb, they closed the entrance with a large stone. People were sad. They felt that everything they have learned from Jesus, all the good deeds they have done… have all been for nothing. But love is never a waste! And we are not afraid, because we know that Jesus is going to roll away the stone in front of the tomb where he was buried and will rise from the dead. He will show us that love can overcome even death. That death is not the end or the goal of our lives: LOVE is the goal of our lives!

How can we keep Jesus company today? Martin and Lisa knew what to do immediately: By returning to the tomb and checking on Jesus many times during the day. We will go visit Jesus, bow down and assure him that we are here with him today as well. We will fill our day with love: with acts of kindness just as Jesus taught us! And we will be waiting for the women to come visit Jesus.

When three women come to visit Jesus, they suddenly find an angel who shows them an empty tomb. “Who are you looking for?” he asks. “Why are you looking for Jesus between the dead, don’t you know that he is alive, he is risen!?” Our hearts are full of joy! Hallelujah, Jesus lives! Hallelujah, he has risen!

Today we make a tomb that looks like a cave with a big stone that can be moved. If you want, you can make a woman (or even three, as we read in the Bible) who goes to visit Jesus at the tomb. And you can also make an angel, who is waiting for the women to announce Jesus’ resurrection. To make it easier for you, we prepared a printout version for you as well, that you can download here:

Here you can find a special prayer card for today:

And we also prepared a colouring page for you:
