8) Pentecost … for kids (Download)

Jesus ascended to heaven, to the arms of our Heavenly Father. The disciples are alone and in spite of everything Jesus told them since the resurrection… the disciples feel scared and alone. Mary is with them and as a mother she tries to comfort them, encourage them and make them feel safe, but there’s no use. Jesus is no longer here, and the disciples feel useless, and they feel like no one believes them… They don’t even know how to talk about what they experienced with Jesus. How should they preach the gospel from the rooftops when they don’t even have the courage to climb up to the roof?

When Pentecost came, the disciples and Mary were gathered together praying. Suddenly a strong wind blew, and then tongues of fire appeared above each of them: the Holy Spirit descended and filled their hearts. They began to speak in tongues as if the Holy Spirit had whispered the words to them.

The Holy Spirit brings many gifts for us: today is almost like Christmas but the gifts we get today are even more important than the toys on Christmas Eve. These gifts we use every day and we don’t outgrow them! They stay in our hearts always and we can always ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen them in our hearts.

The Holy Spirit brings us seven gifts today: 1) WISDOM is being able to see everything with the eyes of God; 2) UNDERSTANDING opens your mind to what our faith means; 3) COUNSEL is the gift that helps us decide between what’s wright and what’s wrong; 4) FORTITUDE is the courage to stand up for what we believe in; 5) KNOWLEDGE gives us a glimpse of God as our creator; 6) PIETY is the desire to worship God; 7) FEAR OF GOD is the ability to see Gods amazingness! 🙂

The Holy Spirit fills our hearts with all his gifts… but most importantly with love! Love always whispers us what the right thing to do is, gives us the right words that others can understand, even gives us the courage to climb up on top of the rooftops…

And so, with the Holy Spirit in his heart, St. Peter bravely climbed onto the roof and spoke so courageously and wisely about Jesus that everyone understood him! Everyone understood him as if he spoke their own language! As if Jesus was talking to them directly: from heart to heart! Imagine, that day, after St. Peter and the other disciples spoke to people about Jesus, more than three thousand people wanted to get baptized! Can you imagine such a huge baptisms celebration?
