Corpus Christi … for kids (Download)

Today’s celebration is called Corpus Christi. What does that mean? Literally it means the body of Christ, which is the Eucharist.

Maybe many of you are still little… some of you probably did not have your first communion yet. But you do know, that Jesus, even though he went up into the embrace of the heavenly Father, has a way to stay with us always. Actually there are four ways that Jesus is present with us: in the Eucharist, in the Gospel, in each an every one of us and among us when we are assembled in His name.

In the Eucharist, His presence is very strong: Jesus is the Eucharist! Through the Eucharist we not only see Jesus and can feel his presence in our hearts… but we have the possibility to be transformed into another little Jesus in a way. Isn’t that amazing?

In this last period, because of the Corona virus, we all are missing the Eucharist. Not just you, because you are very little and can not receive Jesus in the Eucharist but we all can’t receive him, because we can not go to church, to mass, to communion…

But our Pope Francis introduced us to the possibility of spiritual communion during these times when we are unable to attend mass and go to church. We already wrote about this here. Mom and dad can use this beautiful prayer for themselves but we prepared a prayer for you little ones as well: So even though we are at mass only in our living rooms and through tvs or computers, we still can connect our heart to Jesus, renew our love for him and invite him into our hearts and into our lives.

Dear Jesus,
You are my best friend and
I love You more than anything in the world!
I know that You are in my heart:
That gives me great joy!
I want to hug You and listen to Your voice ...
Please stay in my heart forever!
You are mine and I am yours!
Amen.

How are the traditions for this feast in your country? Where we live, the tradition is to prepare a beautiful flower-carpet in front of the church. It is amazing!!! Made out of flower petals and leaves and nuts and seeds… It’s a joy to see the different also very modern patterns that the parishes come up with every year! This year we are missing out on this tradition. But we thought maybe you want to make your own flower-carpet for Jesus? We prepared a coloring page for you: really it’s just an outline. Don’t just color it! Come up with patterns and colors, or even things you can glue on top of it… Make your flower-carpet and share it with us! We can’t wait!
